US imposes visa restrictions on Haitian official linked to terrorism
“The Department will revoke any currently valid visas held by this individual,” the statement said, without naming the official. The restrictions follow a policy introduced in October 2022, which allows the US to limit visas for individuals—and sometimes their family members—who are alleged to provide financial or material support to Haitian criminal networks.
The department emphasized that Washington remains committed to Haiti’s stability and expects tangible progress toward free and fair elections. “The Haitian people have had enough with gang violence, destruction, and political infighting,” the statement added, noting that the administration seeks accountability for those continuing to destabilize Haiti and the wider region.
